Looking to Meet New People This Summer? Maybe You’re Better Off Bowling

Whether you’re sick and tired of Tinder & Bumble, or you just want to make some new friends in Albuquerque, Better Off Bowling has one goal – building a young, fun community around the city.

In a digital age where people now spend more time in front of a screen than an actual human being, opportunities to meet people the old fashioned way are becoming harder to find. Better off Bowling is trying to change that; the organization offers social bowling leagues for 20 & 30 somethings looking to have some fun, meet new people, and try something new – bowling skills optional!

What started out as a group of friends looking to do something fun in Boston back in 2009, has now grown into a national community of over 60,000 bowlers in 37 cities. “What makes the leagues so enjoyable is that they’re social and non-competitive” says one member of the Better Off Bowling team. “Whether you’re rolling gutters or strikes, nobody really cares! Most people join for the social aspect: meeting new people, the bar games after bowling, etc.”

One big pull of the league is the idea that it’s really not about the bowling. According to the organizers, lots of people sign up just for the social aspect: the team trivia during bowling where opposing teams need to work together to win prizes, or the bar games after bowling where all the teams hang out, get to know each other, and play games like Flip Cup, Cards Against Humanity, Party Jenga, Beer Pong, and more. “Even if bar games are not your thing, the after-bowling hangout is just a nice way to chat and mingle with everyone else in the league!” says Stephen McAllister, Marketing Manager for the league.

Better Off Bowling will be running leagues at Main Event this summer and registration is open until Wednesday, July 10th. Players can sign up solo (don’t worry, you’ll be placed on a team with other fun people!), as a small group (2-5 players), or a full team (6-10 players). The total registration cost (per player) for the full 6 week season is $63 and this includes everything: Bowling, league organization, free t-shirt, shoe rental, after-bowling bar games, prizes and medals. Bowling takes place once a week on Wednesday evenings and the league starts July 17.
