Drag Show | Pride in Resistance: 50th Anniversary of Stonewall

Event has passed!

This Pride, come celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion with a drag show! The rebellion at the Stonewall Inn, led by trans and queer people against the bigoted and racist police forces, launched a mass movement for LGBTQ rights and dignity that continues to change the world!

Come out Wednesday, June 5 from 8-11pm to commemorate the heroes of the LGBTQ resistance struggle, past, present and future! Join us in honoring iconic activist Marsha P. Johnson, known for throwing the first brick at Stonewall and a lifetime of pioneering organizing work.

On June 28, 1969, police violently raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in Greenwich Village, NY, one of the few that allowed for drag queens and dancing at the time.

Tired of being harassed, abused, and criminalized by the police for their sexual orientation and gender expressions, the LGBTQ community fought back for six days following the raid. People took to the streets to demand equal rights and treatment and to fight back against oppression. The bravery of the rebellion gave expression to a whole generation that began demanding liberation. It inspired the very first Gay Pride March that was celebrated the following year on the anniversary of Stonewall.

New generations today continue to be inspired by and carry the torch of fighters like Marsha P. Johnson and countless others!

Come out for a fabulous night of performances from PSL and community members, as well as members of the Black Cat Cabaret. There will be a raffle with prizes, a fashion show, and much more!! No cover charge!
All donations will go to the Party for Socialism and Liberation in Albuquerque to help support our ongoing organizing work building movements against war, racism, sexism, LGBTQ bigotry and for SOCIALISM!
