Los Angeles based Harold Mendez will have his first Tamarind artist residency this fall. He is known for his work in sculpture and with found photography, and was featured in the 2017 Whitney biennial. His work between sculpture and photography has a rich materiality, with multilayered surfaces and labor-intensive processes pushing and effacing the materials at the same time. As part of his residency at Tamarind, Mendez will be exploring 19th c. photography archives from the region.
