Albuquerque Ashtanga Yoga Shala
The Albuquerque Ashtanga Yoga Shala offers traditional Ashtanga yoga practice as taught by Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, R. Sharath Jois, and Saraswathi Jois of the Shri KPJ Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India.
The term “Ashtanga” is explained in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as a system of practice which ultimately leads to the cessation of thought fluctuations so that one can see the true nature of the Self. Asana is one of the eight “limbs” of Ashtanga yoga.
In the asana practice, students are taught one posture at a time, practicing the same sequence of asanas daily, adding the next in the sequence when the teacher feels the student is ready. This highly personal method combines breathing, bandha, posture, and gaze into a purifying practice for the body, mind, and spirit. All students begin with the primary series called Yoga Chikitsa (Yoga Therapy).
Students of all levels, abilities, ages, and conditions are welcome. The only requirement is a willingness to learn.
