Fans of country music are in for a treat as singer-songwriter Clint Black has been announced as the headliner of the City of Albuquerque’s annual Freedom 4th celebration. Black has been touring since releasing his latest album On Purpose – his first in several years – in September of 2015.
Black’s On Purpose is a collection of diverse, self-produced songs. It includes ballads Only One Way to Live, Stay Gone, Breathing Air and The Last Day and upbeat tunes Beer and Better and Worse.
Black’s first studio album, Killin’ Time, debuted in 1989 and went triple-platinum. The following year he led a movement of talent that transformed country music into a multi-million dollar industry in the 1990s.
“Clint Black is an incredibly talented iconic country music star, who is sure to draw a huge crowd for Freedom 4th,” said Mayor Richard Berry. “I am thrilled to welcome him to Albuquerque and enjoy his music at this great family event.”
To date, Clint Black has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and racked up dozens of charted, top-10 and number-one hits. Recordings such as A Better Man, Killin’ Time, Like the Rain, When I Said I Do and Nothin’ But the Taillights have led to honors from the Country Music Association, The Academy of Country Music, The Grammys and the American Music Awards, as well as membership in the cast of the Grand Ole Opry.
His latest album is dedicated to his father who died in late 2012.
“My dad was a huge country fan and is the first reason I listen to country music. He is probably the reason I’m a songwriter today. He was my introduction to ‘who’s behind the music’. I grew up wanting to be the writer behind the song. That really all started with him,” Black said.
Freedom 4th, one of the largest Fourth of July celebrations in New Mexico, will be back at Balloon Fiesta Park to celebrate the country’s independence on Tuesday, July 4 from 3-10 p.m. The celebration will include food vendors, local beer in the Microbrew Garden, free children’s activities and the state’s largest fireworks show. Admission is free to this rain-or-shine event.
Parking at Balloon Fiesta Park is $10 per car. Park and ride locations will be announced at a later date.
