The ABQ BioPark is offering exclusive behind-the-scenes tours at the Zoo and Aquarium this holiday season. December’s special tours feature sharks, hippos, rhinos, giraffes, elephants, crocodiles and more.
The tours will take place from Dec. 26-31. Each tour lasts one hour and ticket prices are $90 per person. You can browse available tours and more details at www.bioparksociety.org/main/tours.
“These tours make the perfect gift and provide an exciting way to entertain guests from out of town and kids who are home from school,” said Allyson Zahm, development manager for the New Mexico BioPark Society.
A zookeeper or aquarist will lead each tour and share personal stories about the animals in their care. While behind the scenes, tour-goers will learn about backstage operations such as diet preparation, health care, training and enrichment.
Keepers will also provide information on how to protect the animals’ wild counterparts and their habitats. Some tours include an up-close encounter with an animal. Each participant will receive a free cup of hot cocoa from the Zoo or Aquarium café to conclude their experience.
Tour groups are kept small to ensure an exclusive and safe experience. The New Mexico BioPark Society coordinates these tours to benefit Zoo and Aquarium animals. Proceeds from each ticket directly fund the animals on the tour.
Some age restrictions apply. Tours will occur as scheduled in the event of rain or snow.
